For my part, I think it was actually *meant* to be ambiguous and difficult to tell whom he is in fact referring to here... There are a lot of deliberately ambiguous sentences like that in the previous chapters too.

You're right! The complex way in which the characters think and act in riddles makes this one really interesting and hard to predict. I feel like, even if you manage to guess *some* parts, there will always be some really unexpected twists too :)
