I think an interesting manga to compare Lover Boy to would be Urehara Ari's "Sex Friends" becuase it has similarities like how for both theres a seme who we can get the idea that they want to be with the uke (clearly more so in Lover Boy) but the uke is kinda like 'eeeeh i dont knoooow' but being with the seme could really benefit their wellbeing, especially since they already have feelings for their semes. My point is the ending for "Sex Friends" kind of has that same ambiguous feeling that Lover Boy has right about now in that theyre having sex but arent really in in a relationship. I mean I feel really bad for Eunho honestly and personally I put the blame on Jaeha for how Eunho is acting rn but theres clearly things Jaeha has to figure out himself or the cycle's just going to keep going and Eunho is going to end up either doing something neither of them can take back or leaving as a copy of Jaeha.
I just hope Lover Boy takes the route that Sex Friends did where theres a mutual understanding and respect by both people that one of them isn't ready to be in a relationship but does want to be with the other person. Sex Friends, even though things were kind of left out in the open for the reader to guess I think we can all agree that in the end they do get together it's just it obviously will take some time but theyre going to take it together. Honestly, even though Eunho had the best and most pure intentions, he pushed way too hard and fast for Jaeha who is really really broken and is going to need a little more than tough love to get him back together again.
Great comparison. However I would say that Lover Boy takes the reader on a more emotional journey than Sex Friends so if the ending is ambiguous (after everything we’ve seen them go through) it might be disappointing. However, I loved how unconventional the ending to Sex Friends was and something optimistic yet ambiguous might work as a more realistic ending than a “happy” ending for LB considering the tone of the second half. But the author did say there would be a happy ending too!
