In a flashback he seemed to be injured, but asked Marius if he would help his little sister. Francois also knows him and it seems he was also asked to help Liliana. Marius and Francois are helping for two reasons, the first is because they regret what they did to Liliana in the previous life and the second is because of their promise to Andreas. Andreas loves Liliana, like his sisters, sees her as their child. They all acted like parents to her since their own parents died when Liliana was a baby.
