no there aren't that many stories with "our preferance" i just want a serious dark story but with not so much noncon. most consensual story are too cringey, fluffy, or sappy. the balance between consensual but still dark story is actually not easy to achieve and find.
however if you can give proof that there are story like that it's actually great. I need some recommendations
theres my favorite one that i know and its still on going but i dont remember the title and actually if you really REALLY searched that story u want it is plenty, most that ik its from manhua or manga
true, i am not saying there is no "dark story without rape", but it's still rare. in guideverse i remember there is actually one "dear, 00" (i really rec it!) but it's still pretty new so there arent that many chapters yet.
there is also another guide verse "dark haze" but that one is too cringey and not dark enough or at all IMO

its not rare, there are many manhua that really have dark story but shounen ai, slow burn as well they maybe will just holding hands at 50 ish chapter but most often the stories have really really good plot so its worth it, like i said just search it, and not just in one or two platform and you will find it. im an old time fujoshi too but i dont read and obsessed with any manhua manga or manhwa as often as before so i dont remember any of the titles, just remember a glimpse of the plot story so i cant give you my recommendation list.
It's quite hard to pull dark stories with consensual smut that is aligned with the actual plot coz it's a bit conflicting to the setting, and a lot of authors already use the dark plot as an excuse for questionable character actions in the first place too. It's not an impossibility though- Red Room for instance has a dark plot and the smut is presented as dubcon but it's really consensual on both parties, with the uke even wanting the seme to be more aggressive in the novel. It's psychological tho and both leads are whacked in the head so it's probably not the best example, but as a reader it's pretty good and meets this criteria.

yeah most of the times i can see that it's bc author want to write nonconsensual stuff that the plot is dark instead of the other way around. the plot is tailored around the toxic relationship in the first place. and viola sometimes you still get a masterpiece. most of the times readers don't care that much tho as long as they get meat and visually appealing characters. sometimes i am also in the mood for such stories but very rarely
