String of fate vs all the circumstances of their relationship has - age gap, raised together/basically no different from being brothers, SJ's siblings' deaths, etc. MH is well aware with the problems the comments are pointing out. Imo, it's a good plot point for MH's powers. He was told not to change or avoid meddling with the future he sees, his relationship with SJ is on the same boat. He has been trying to change it when he noticed it was going down that route but fate is driving them to the path destined for them. That's a good plot to me.

But it seems DH struggled on what to do or say. Or just said that nope, everything was true. So, jump to 4 years later. JH looking like he finally became an actor, glowing and well kept, and DH? Depressed, lifeless crew member. Looks like a low level assistant PD/writer.
