I can't think for a single good reason for kirster to stay at home and let jonathan commute to school on his own if there's a real danger of the copycat getting to him. Like what was his plan of action if that did happen? He sends out the ''bait'' but he's not there to catch whatever takes it? I understand the author just needed it for the plot but my man is looking dumb as fuck now

I think, objectively and with yaoi logic, Seungho is showing him his innermost desires and the part of him he denies due to his crush on Inhun. He’s clearly shown an affinity and interest for sodomy since he was young but ignored it due to Inhun scolding him and calling him shameful. However here he’s being shown what it means to embrace that nature through Seungho who, though quite forceful, let’s Nakyum experience what he’s been interested in first hand without being called dirty and looked down on for enjoying it. Because that’s what it boils down to, Nakyum liking sodomy. That’s why even though it was forced on him you see that throughout the entire chapter of sex marathon he was feeling pleasure. So now he’s feeling butterflies because he finally experienced what it’s like to have someone look at his innermost desires and go “Oh, wanting anal penetration isn’t disgusting and I can show you it feels good.” You even see in his dream when he wakes up that his subconscious is admitting to him enjoying it and the only reason he continues to try and deny and abhor it is because of Inhun ingraining into him that it’s horrible and his unrequited love is chaining him back from accepting such a big part of himself and his wants. Yaoi logic. Sorry that was lengthy.

See my problem is that this manga tries to have it both ways. There's that scene where the painter is so distraught by what's happening to him that he becomes completely unresponsive. As sick as it made me, I thought it was so rare for yaoi to depict rape as it is. They didn't make use of the yaoi logic in those first moments, treating the lack of consent as something to sulk 2 days about and get over afterwards. They even gave the painter a fever and framed the whole thing with other character's reactions, seemingly setting up for punishing the lord for his cruelty. But...they reward him instead. The previous chapters now look like a gimmick, like I guess some people have a fetish for crying faces and that was the reason behind the ''rocky'' start? Sorry, but it's jarring. Yaoi logic is a long standing way of basically taking the impact of things out of your plot. But if you start using it only halfway through a dramatic story to get cheap lighthearted romance it just feels like you've skipped a few bases. In this case, a whole lot.

No, completely understandable where you’re coming from. However, and take this objectively once again, I feel like Byeonduck was putting importance on violent acts such as rape. That’s why they included the after affects, because reality ISNT yaoi and people DO suffer and cry because it’s horrific. But hear me out as I attempt to kind of show where I THINK the author was going. If you look back at the scenes of rape you do see how miserable Nakyum is, he’s distraught and beyond angry. Even telling Seungho that he hates him. Not once does he refer to or think about the act of rape itself as being what he was upset about. He hated Seungho taking away what he was picturing and saving as a special thing for Inhun (who is obviously never going to return a shred of favorable feelings to him.) When Nakyum told Seungho those words were for Inhun you could clearly see that the sex completely settled on the back burner in the wake of realizing he hadn’t confessed to his teacher and that his feelings weren’t reciprocated. That’s why when they have their sex marathon Nakyum is able to get hard as opposed to the more violent rape we saw after the hunting trip. It wasn’t the act of sex that brought him anguish so much as it was the emotional side of it. Also remember Nakyum was brought up in a brothel and therefore had the ability to adapt better than someone who’d never encountered such acts before. Sorry, lengthy again. This is also just what I assume Byeonduck was going for.

While I see your point, it just felt jarring to me. I think, if the root of the problem is emotional, it's even more strange to have such an abrupt change. It's one thing getting over the hate, but falling in love with someone who's been abusing you using both blackmailing, fear and power requires more than just seeing your sexual fantasy fulfilled. I do get where the story was trying to go, I just don't think it works. The setting probably worsen things, given as with the power of his title the lord literally OWNS the painter. There was never gonna be a way out. It creates a very...claustrophobic vibe of having no choice, and it makes these sudden ''feelings'' even more jarring.

Not to agree or disagree with either of you, but the point about Nakyum being reminds us that - unlike other yaoi stories - this particular one is written as a historical story. As agonizing as it may be, some of these tropes may be quite realistic for the historical time referenced. We’re looking back with modernized views of equality/consent etc., but it makes me consider what Nakyum - as a low born, raised in sub-par circumstances in society - could have reasonably expected for love and livelihood in this society. Our morals/expectations are grounded in the culture we’re raised and if we were in Nakyum’s life - in that historical context - would we be likely to accept our fate and find ways to make the most of it? It really makes me wonder. Of course, such brutal acts and disregard for another’s basic human rights is atrocious now, but it begs us to also consider characters’ mindsets in the world they live in. Good discussion here; very thought provoking.

Thank god there’s someone who thinks Seungho should be punished for what he did. And it bugs me soooo much the way Nakyum, instead of feeling disgusted and traumatized, reacted with butterflies in his stomach after being forced upon against his will, abused, and raped to exhaustion. I was looking forward to karma to take its course, but it never happens and Nakyum’s grievance remains unavenged. Not that he needs it but still i wanna see

    DaniekaHerrin March 21, 2020 10:38 pm

One last point though is that Nakyum hasn’t even named it as love. He’s just never been treated well so he’s not shocked about the harsh treatment from earlier but is unaccustomed to the kinder more sensual treatment he’s receiving now. Good conversation y’all!!

No. Just because it was the custom doesn't mean this behaviour is excused or justified. When someone is used to living in terrible conditions that's just giving up not actually enjoying it. Rape to obedience in a historical setting between lord and low born? Yea sure. Rape to love? Absolutely not. The inherent fear that comes from being abused by someone you know can't touch could never turn into love. And this specific case, nothing was done to even trigger that kind of reaction. It's just abuse after abuse and the dude is really not reacting like a hum being would, being in his situation.

I really dislike how the abusive ex made a 180 just bc the author wants to make him more digestible to get her second pair. Maybe she hopes that if she ignores the thing long enough people will just forget or some shit. Well. I didn't forget, I don't give a shit about him, and frankly not about his dudebro either, I don't wanna see them plot nor fuck, just fucking keep your villain and yeet him out of the story when need be, without trying to make me empathize with the fucker because fuck...it's not happening

    hunterx2 March 20, 2020 2:23 am

That is what a lot of abusers do though. It's why so many people like Donghae stay in abusive relationships. They go through periods of treating their partners like trash, after they cross a line and it looks like they are about to lose their partner, they go full on apology tour. "I didn't mean it!","I love you so much", "Please don't leave me, I won't do it again."

Most abusive people aren't abusive 24/7. There are different types of abuse and abusers have varying reasons for why they are abusive. Some can change and they can get better. It can be included in stories without really forgiving the abuser. So just wait and see.

    Nyandatte?! March 20, 2020 10:23 pm

oh yeah because this character is totally a perfectly written abusive man with nuance and not just another example of ''hey lets redeem the abusive seme and make him an uke!'' trope. This story is way too trashy to even begin to think that the intention behind his change is showing actual abusers' mentality. You're not wrong, but you're giving them too much credit. Wait and see, he's gonna end up getting assaulted himself by his own friend or some shit like that

    Ame September 29, 2020 1:08 pm

I'm so happy I find your comment because OMG YES I FUCKING HATE those kinds of trope...!!! Like in many many manga/manhwa/novels the author builds such a shitty person they treat the uke like a peace of trash (hit, rape, insult etc you name it) then somewhere along the way when the new seme and main uke starts to click the author just magically creates a new manly seme number 2 and make the shitty seme the new uke... And suddenly everything he has done up till now is forgiven?!! Readers going crazy over the new cp and find them 'wild' 'hot' 'satisfying' ... like that just make me wanna puke! Turning into an uke is not a proper way to change a person for good, and that never make up for what happened... Those scumbags should have gone on their knee begging for forgiveness, giving all of their property living like beggars miserable and all alone or better, going to jail! Some yaoi logics are just literally garbage
