I haven't read all of the chapters, so from what I see in c 3-4, In manhwa, the reason why idol inc season 2 plop was because scandal between girl and boys since season 2 is mixed gender idol competition

While in novel, it stated that there's a quite popular male idol who's impregnated a female idol, instead of cutting shits quickly, production team decided to make this a love idol show by showing (or editing?) both male and female look like an adoring couple, but then one female idol broke the news (I think it was because she was stressed out or something) and tell the media that the male idol cheated on her and that female idol. And somehow the pregnancy news got out and things went batshit.
