its psychological lol i feel like the first question is easily answered with the fact its basically mind games, the guys crazy, he wants mc to be isolated so for this to happen he wants mc to view everything as unhappiness with his happiness being just him. all alone with ML. no one else
the ml does all of this to make the mc miserable and scared of the outside world; that way the only safe space would be him and "their home" just pretty fucked up
