This is the only story I've ever read in which the misunderstandings and bad situations can possibly happen in real life. The duke are trying his best, and she is too. The situations happening here are a mix of lack of communication and timing.
Even if Ercela talked with the duke, at that time, he wouldn't have done much, since he was a busy (plus still young) and she herself had no awareness of what she was feeling or what she needed.
She was forced to grow up, and was overwhelmed with sad situations, while being pregnant. Is too much for a 17-18y.o(?) girl.
