I now personally think that the grandpa was the one who made Yawhi like this, but also, I feel like he became more cautious by seeing how people acted around him. He became wary of all the people around him and didn't want to show his "real self" to anyone, but that was until he started interacting with Jooin and noticing how Jooin actually liked him as a person no matter how cold or rude he was.
On the other hand, I could see how Jooin would give up Yawhi, and I mainly think it was the attitude Jooin got when he knew that Yawhi had an idea about hs feelings.
