So that means he can read everyone's comments. Which means he knows that we know that he knows exactly what we're saying. So that means if there are ever plot twists that happen on pages he's not on as soon as someone comments on it he would then know exactly how the plot has changed right? Certainly interesting.
I feel like when Seraphina finds out John actually does have an ability she's going to be so pissed.
She will feel devastated. He is her model, and everything is only him acting soft, running away and being manipulated. The double personality will crush her heart so much. Poor Sera. Even more now that she acted because she felt inspired by it. He should talk to her, but it will probably not happen like that, because drama is needed. John is really in a tight spot, and his is blind too with anger and fear of being left alone, if she turn her back to him because of the lie, imagine the damage it will cause. :(
She doesn't have any reason to be devastated. Even WITH the lie, he's been her friend more than she's been his.
And, no, he is not acting soft, running away and being manipulated. The version you and (what you apparently think) she want to see is the one who would not only be acting soft, running away and manipulated but also so boring and cliched. You really would have had to have missed the flashbacks to John's past in order to presume otherwise, y'know....
The reason she is his friend is because she looks up to him, because despite being a cripple he doesn't hold back on wanting to live like he wants rather than living always in the shadow and sucking up to the system. There is way more to his persona, but that will not work inside the story, since she doesn't know his past, she only know what she saw, and that is part of a act, you wanting it or not. The act: He being powerless but strong minded, but in reality it is the opposite his mind is in chaos and he has a power he doesn't want to use because he doesn't want to stay in the top anymore and be alone (despite the traumas, he tries really hard to be strong minded, but in the end he is avoiding the issue anyway, rather than confronting it, he is way better now but if it all is confusing to him imagine for her if she gets to know). Also she has not been any less of a friend than him, she tries to protect him when things goes out of hand but still give him space to act strong (she does her job as body guard tho, since she thinks he could die if the others go all out on him), she pushes him around to go outside so he can pass a better time and is his friend despite all the pressure she receive. Both are great to each other in the end.
You not agreeing in the soft part could be meaning issues. When I said soft it meant he wants to be rightful and says people should look at the weak as more than their weakness, he wants power to be used to protect, like having a soft heart. His character is really nice and soft now, at least the one Sera knows, the good side of him. But he is way more than that, there is a lot of anger inside him and loneliness and a darker past. And those traumas he has, and is clearly stated in the flashbacks is what I meant with running away, he simple chose to hide his power so he could live another life, he has his reason sure, but it is still running away. He is still pretty angry about the green haired girl and all the shit he was through that he even hurt the girl that simple wanted to help him (the queen now, she never did anything to him and went to help him pick his paper and he only acted violent because his past was making him crazy if he was on his right mind like in the begging of the story he would have acted nicer to her). That is to show, he has the right to change, but if he simple hides all his trauma, bottling it up will not solve anything and stuff may blow up any time like it is happing now and because of that he may lose his only friend. The last point about being manipulated, is that I think the society is manipulating him to acting weak and hide, the society pressure and shit system doesn't want someone assertive like him and violent to mindless criticism. All the king and queens seem to have to endure being talked like they are inhuman, but he seems to not put up with that shit and started hitting people, so the society structure forced him out, his classmate went against him, his only 'friend' went against him, the school also didn't care and sent him off like he was a piece of shit. As one who couldn't be controlled he was forced to either lay low like he is now or become crazier and ended in jail or dead like a criminal, he chose the first one and it was a nice change, he acted way less violent and got to make a new friend that really is a true friend and like him for what he wants to be and not because of power and status, she even changed for better and is happier now because of the choices he made, but in the end a relationship that is build above lies will crumble. She will feel betrayed or at least I would if the one I believed in would lie to me so much, but that would also depend on how one would enter in contact with the lie, if it is him opening up to her it would be great and their friendship would suffer a little only but would be stronger than ever, but imagine if it is someone else showing it, it would be shit, she would feel like she was betrayed or worse depending on how the person telling the story choses to put it, needless drama but that is how humans are, lies hurt people.
