Personally I feel like there was a lack of communication on both sides. Their relationship seemed good before, but looked to have strained due to overall money problems but also not being open to each other. The FL’s choice of affection is different from Mincheol’s which perhaps also plays into it. But I don’t think that’s the main factor as to why it particularly broke the relationship.

Had they had the money, perhaps they would have lived well and this would have never happened, yes. But going through tough times like this is the essential test and essence of what love and being in a relationship really is. Endurance, energy, strength, etc. and most importantly, responsibility. Their environment isn’t ideal, but the fact that FL is willing to put up with it all for him, shows commitment, which is her way of showing her appreciation and for being with him.
