I think the mc is a good person but complicated person and his lil internal monologues on how he's doing all this just to appear as a good person is to convince himself more than anyone else. He's a teen w a lot of complicated emotion, self hatred and shame whole thinks hes an awful person just cause his actions don't have 100% pure intentions but it's impossible to live that way.
