Yeeeeesss!!! I believe the "main" story was meant to be a part of an anthology centered around polygamy, and had works from other authors as well. But some stories were such a hit that we got side stories for them!
Though I do think this is the only one that got a continuation with proper backstory and plot.

welp, i dont rlly think dyne likes kouichi that way... i may have not been reading the story continuously, but i can say dyne likes the elf more (in a romantic sense). maybe it's just like a friendly like or brother like thing for dyne to kouichi. welp, after all, he has been guarding him for quite some time
I agree, I always felt while maybe a slight romantic feel, it would end up more as a brotherly love than romantic love. I also see Dyne's respect for Rail morphing into a romantic love that he never realized. That's why he is mad, not that he cant love Kouichi but that the one he loves thinks he does
yes! fair point. another thing, dyne has been discouraging kouichi's ability to hatch the egg. after all, dyne thinks him and the egg are alike (not necessarily needed to be born). so maybe, he is just indeed happy that kouichi succeeded on the mission and saved a life.
