LOL it is! But it's like new to them as well. Like awakener who were only discovered 2 yrs ago, ABO/second gender is even newer. They have correlated that only awakener can develop to ABO. And at this time in the manhwa, many of the awakeners havent developed 2nd gender.

Those who haven't are betas and if my understanding is correct, they're all beta until they awaken the second gender, and some of them don't even awaken at all as per Yuder's memories. And the reaason the term "beta" is not mentioned is because, as you said, it is all new and it hasn't been distinguished yet since betas are nothing more than normal people.
