I can't even pick a side. Both aren't handling this well. But since Lee has a lot of support already....I think expecting anyone to be in love right now it a bit much. Especially Sunny since he's recovering. Do we have a read on how long the two of them were together? Were they ever really together? Or did they fuck a few times and went on a few dates. I could imagine a situation without the crazy backstory where Sunny wasn't in love with Lee yet. And like that's normal?
Who is 100% in love with someone at the beginning of a relationship? It's called the honeymoon period for a reason. It is always infatuation that hopefully deepens into something more. But in this situation Young exists and is super manipulative. Technically Sunny should have been more open with Lee but.....That's some heavy shit.
No seriously. Say you have managed to distance yourself from an abusive ex, but he comes back into your life the moment you start seeing someone else. The mature thing might be to explain as best you can to the new guy your complicated relationship with your ex. The unfortunately normal thing to do? Is to hope it blows over because nobody opens up about relationship trauma that easily. Not to someone they don't know that well and hope to have a good relationship with.
Sunny had put a lid on things. He never cheated(not that he was in a real relationship with Lee anyway). He did what he thought was necessary. He finished off what he felt was his obligation to Young and his old life. He gathered the few material things he had so that he'd have no reason to see Young again. He made the declaration to Young that he wouldn't go see Young again. And he'd kept his word. Hell, even if he and Lee never get back together I can't see Sunny going back to Young. None of his thoughts have been that he thinks things were better when Young had a hold on him. He had a whole internal monologue about how he was being manipulated by Young a few chapters ago.
But you know who's been talking to Young? Who's been chasing after Young? Lee. If Lee had never taken the time to seek out Young the last few chapters would have been of Lee and Sunny fucking while Young glowered in the background. Lee knows that what he has with Sunny isn't true love. Honestly I'm not sure why he expects such things from a new relationship, but whatever. He wanted bad news and he got it. And maybe it's for the best for Sunny too. Sunny is not in the right mental state to give his all in a relationship because he's just now recovering himself. This fling was doomed from the start.
