All these love interests are trash and Eclis is the best out of it (I'm getting sus vibes from him though, I don't trust anyone except the mc)

It means that the characters inside and the story itself is not well-developed. That's why there's no actual reason for the animosity between demons and humans. The ex-boyfriend is annoying af because he's a male version of the Mary Sue.
