yes, according to the novel, the red haired guy is more of a prideful and egotistical man. that's why he wanted the other beautiful princess, he didn't love her per say, but was more attracted to the status that came with her. he viewed her as a trophy sort of. while being married to soru, he cheats on her with that princess, essentially there's smut of the two of them in the novel. in the end, he does realize that he actually loves soru but he's already lost her.
