You’ve got to understand, the ankles are a charm point. Nice, visible ankles are so cute and pretty when paired with low cut platform shoes. It’s the best when there’s contrast, so thin socks can definitely play a role. All that to say, HES COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE AND RIGHT

Sir ashler is the only one who genuinely cares for Abel. Out of five main captain guards thingy, sir Ashler is the ONE, it's just unfortunate that sir Ashler is not on the same tent at the time. And only the Captains knows that Abel is the true regas (excluding the butler and others), so no one really knows how important Abel really is.
So it's really not surprising why no one gaf when Abel gets taken.
