Well he’s a petty cowardly scum, whatever benefits him is more useful. in his eyes a daughter with the mark of the saintess is more believable ig. Cuz everyone knows that the mark shows on the person who is the saint so showing that mark is their qualification and stuff.

Try reading the duchess' lewd invitation and in the doghouse. There are some bdsm elements in the second one so it might not be for everyone but for me it's a personal favorite.
