The real problem with the story was that Hakushima was such an empty shell of a character. He felt unloved while being loved by Natsuka, and he pretended not to notice. It would've made sense if he was 100% straight, but in the end he wonders if he could've ended up in Seno's place, so that's not it.
And Seno doesn't act like himself until after they get together, too, so it's not like Natsuka fell in love with his authentic self either. I don't think he loves Seno more than he loved Hakushima, it's just that Seno returned his love. That's literally it.
