Definitely has to do with the translation. I read the first few pages of the official English translation, and the differences were really significant, imo.

The uke was abusive. Pulling hair, pinching, squeezing the seme’s hand super hard, squeezing his dick, pulling him around roughly and slamming him into walls, etc. And that’s just the physical abuse. He was also extremely manipulative and emotionally abusive. If the author would’ve toned it down a few notches, I would’ve enjoyed it more because I’m a sucker for the childhood friends to lovers trope, but ultimately the uke just ended up being annoying as fuck.

i totally agree, I ended up dropping this manga sadly but you should absolutely read sugar dog! It's one my favourites by this author and its super wholesome with a much more likeable seme lol

The art in the little story at the end was great. I wish we could’ve had that through the whole story, tbh.
“I’m pretty sure my eyes are open. I didn’t do this on purpose.” This part broke my heart, ngl. He’s so traumatized by people bullying him that he even has doubts about whether his eyes are open after he bumps into Sanada.
It was alright. The story tried to make Uito out to be some “big, strong, and scary” but none of that was shown. He didn’t look big, even by high school standards, and glaring at people isn’t really scary, so that aspect of the story was underwhelming. I kind of wish the story was longer and would’ve unfolded in a linear manner and started with them in kindergarten and led up to them in college. Also, I enjoy sweetness, but this story was just Uito being called cute and bunny repeatedly. The story and dialogue was severely lacking. The smut was nice, though.
Oh, and the sister is a huge perv, wtf? lol I will say that her brother did look cuter through her eyes. He looked bigger and more masculine.
