The duke and her good friend had a hand in why FL's life is different in this life. They did it to help her. The story going badly has nothing to do with FL, but there's another third party who's messing things up. The spoiler I read didn't specify who tho.

I feel like the maid lied to her daughter about the count being her father, because the maid was jealous and wanted her daughter to take the MCs spot. I believe she poisoned the mother hoping she could control the household.

Or maybe it’s just what she made up as a child. ? Obviously she’s been harboring this belief for a while. As a little girl, she could have mistaken her mother distress and loneliness, blaming the wrong person
Obviously the dad is innocent and helped out of good will.
It’s very possible her mom feels affection or even love for her savior.
Maybe the mum told her a lie, but that would be repaying favor with hardship, so I would think a child misunderstanding is more fit.

In my opinion i think its not just a misunderstanding of the child. The mum deliberately told lies. I think the maid mentioned that Fl got kidnapped when they went out with the Mum something like that. I really think it was intentional. That maid merrly whatever her name is wanted something more than just maid status.
