So it’s not unexpected because there have been deliberate panels that he was falling for her and loved her company.

He told her that he has never loved a woman, he is remarking that same statement in this last chapter, he's asking to marry her so both of them can be free, the freedom from being a slave (beatrice) and the freedom of his family's expectations (trigger). If you saw this coming good for you, you can interpret his character as you desire, but claiming that he is not gay when he has been saying the contrary the whole webtoon...
Honestly I don’t think he loves her romantically bc from all the panels he was in with her, he never displayed any love interest towards her but a type of love you would see with friendship. I genuinely think he meant it when he said he was only interested in men bc I kno there are situations where gay men ended up together with women bc of family circumstance. And I thought he already knew she was female, the only times she’s ever said she was male was to prevent herself from wearing dresses but almost everyone around her knows she’s a female that likes to dress up as a “man”
Erasing his sexuality? There’s no concrete proof that he is purely gay. Give me th chapters that he explicitly said “I like men only.” Looking back at the chapters it seems that everyone knew from the beginning that she was female. She’s the only one who believed that she dressed up enough to be mistaken for a boy. With a name like chloe and her stature you’d be stupid not to know. Yet he kept wanting to be near her.
What clinched it for me was when they got attacked and he grabbed her into the grass and held her like she was something extremely precious.
Anyway it happened and he proposed. Whether you saw that or not ISNT a big deal nor is it the point. Point is that it did. So now this event should make you less firm with the argument that he is strictly gay.

I think the ambiguity is in chap 45 (page 2) trigger said "i like men more than women" cuz its a "more than" we cant be sure. But in the following page (page 3) beatrice mentioned "Homosexuality could be a nobility's fetish..." the use of homosexuality - interest in the same gender (trigger being a dude) kinda sealed in my head that trigger is gay.
BUT this is Beatrice's internal thoughts so we still can't be 100% sure but as an author I think they would have carefully considered the words they chose (however this is translated work too so even more ambiguity there) sry for being nosy but aye imo trigger is gay...
