Not usually the case but yes, they do change stuff for the better but also how they change stuff for it to be kind of bad. A kind of an example is how live action adaptions skips A LOT of important scenes, but that doesn't really compare to this. We don't really know what's going on with the author's mind having to agree to js make this a non consensual sex, and it irks me a lot too
