At the college I graduated from there was a reason for not accepting doctors note. You had to go to 75% of classes meaning you had 25% to "waste" so by their logic those 25% should already cover for health issues and other things
We also have this, like you get certain amount of absences on a semester but these professors can think beyond their established rule.
My friend from university failed one of our major subjects because she wasnt able to take a test due to an emergency, It was even finalized on the system but she was able to take the test after the semester ended thanks to that professor who gave her the chance and she passed, she didn't had to add an extra year because of it.
