Who's going to take care of them if Mildred dies? Women in olden times can't really do anything but to marry. And why can't Mildred get stuck on Ashely? It's her kid. They all have things to face

Don't worry, things do get better. They communicate more and Mildred treats them fairly not long after. She also starts thinking them as actual humans instead of characters in fiction.
