Woah, I think I hit a nerve. I’m pissed at Mildred because she keeps getting stuck on Ashley then iris because she can’t seem to understand that she doesn’t need to take care of her almost adult sisters.

You need to realize that this is the olden times women can't work or do anything without a man so ofc she's going to worry about them what if they can't marry? Who's going to take care of them if Mildred dies? Women in olden times can't really do anything but to marry. And why can't Mildred get stuck on Ashely? It's her kid. They all have things to face

Ah yes, I remember thinking the same back then.
Don't worry, things do get better. They communicate more and Mildred treats them fairly not long after. She also starts thinking them as actual humans instead of characters in fiction.
