As someone new to the BL/YAOI genre, many things shocked me. Some things concerned me a lot because I noticed how couples in manhwa/manhua moved too fast in dating, specifically in the BL/YAOI genre, but what made HERE U ARE special for me?
The story isn't fetishized, there's an actual plot, and there are many things that relate to LGBTQ, making this manhua have an authentic representation of the queer community. This also showed how close-knit and disapproving Asian families are, how they can be the most supportive or the ones who will pull you down, and how homophobic our society can be.
The characters are compelling, and their developments are also excellent. The romance is slow-burn and not rushed. This manhua did a job well done in portraying the struggles of being gay, and how it explores falling in love with your friend and a friend of the same sex, as well as accepting your feelings and sometimes the feelings of rejection, grief, and letting go.
The latest update had me screaming. Holy cheesecakes! I cannot wait for the next chapter!
