And he didn't have the best first impression or experience, to put it mildly, so everytime Mr. Snake did something resembling being caring, he brushed it of as him being delulu. Plus he's been so brainwashed by main branch family, that that's why he's been acting like that in the last two chapters; he got reminded that once before he had had to kill himself to protect his loved ones.
