I've read a few of them. But most of the ones I've read have some sort of twist, like this one. The original premise is that the ML lead is supposed to realize that they've fallen in love with the substitute and that the original is actually not good. The original doesn't really want the MC but comes back because they want the MC to still be obsessed with them. It's an ego thing with the original.
