You’re correct Devon was originally a woman in the novel. The way she got cursed was different too.
Though Devon didn’t end up with Agnes’s brother, you’re thinking of the red head who the brother liked and got with.

EXACTLY. I can't understand why a lot of readers are complaining. Personally, I love the build up of the plot. And how detail oriented they were on explaining how this universe works for us to understand the foundation of this story. Never thought I would be so hooked on a BL webtoon with a genre like this
