I zhink what he meant is, that people see the rank before the person.
He actually explained it great. Life paths are made with ppl with higher Edeyas, and they are literally trained to think they are on top.
But they only see the person after the Edeya..

adding to the comment before me, in one of the earlier chapters he's also taking about how he doesn't understand why a disgusting edeya like his would be seen as great and everything, simply bc it's S grade
so he himself thinks his edeya is not good (not in a battle sense, but in more of a general sense) so it doesn't deserve to be "rated" that high..
that's why he says that he doesn't believe that there are grades to edeyas, bc even the "weak" ones are good given proper use and the "good" ones can be bad or useless given the circumstances
