He was indifferent to his fiancee, but they were known by all of high society to be getting engaged since the very beginning (ch 2). Their families would've had to originally agree for it to even be a thing. Female Lili and the duke met because he was visiting his fiancee. The fact that he hasn't cleaned up his social mess and is chasing around another girl aimlessly while still engaged makes him no better than those trashy men in Villainess stories who forsake the person they're officially with for another girl. Noble society is all about pride and procedure, he could easily ruin the fiancee's standing, and so far she's done nothing to deserve that.
