Honestly.... I've been reading yaoi since high school, which was over ten years ago at this point, and rape being the start of a relationship is so common. Like I just don't understand why. Is it a cultural thing (modern pop culture, not like traditional culture)? I don't think so, but I also don't proclaim to be an expert on Japanese culture. Maybe the authors really want to play into the whole "being desired" thing, but frankly that's me giving too much credit/leeway. There are plenty of yaoi stories where the desire and smut are choice, and there's not a single rape scene to be had...
i feel like they could’ve done sm more with this, it just felt very rushed and a lot of things unsaid and not even really adressed
