Also, when I said quickly is more like a perception from the readers POV because Navier develops trust issues but she breaks those walls because Hanley is the sweetest man ever. In fact, I cant really say if she is ever unhappy with him when they married (I have read the novel), she just misses her homeland but Hanley helps her and they go through everything together as a couple. i think it's understandable reason that the secretary don't want to date her.
