It’s a narrative choice, called framing device I think. happens quite often in stories where you want someone else to create the intrigue, and then introduce the mc unconventionally.
Maybe to show that a stranger has arrived in town and how he is different from the rest. Also gave us a chance to find out the character of the future FL.

So, from what I'm getting from the comments the ml rapes the mc in the beginning and even brakes the mc leg later on and their miscommunication is horrible too... How exactly am I supposed to root for them? Yes! I promise give it a chance. The leg breaking was horrid for sure, i almost stopped then too.
Thankfully it wasn't a severe leg breaking and it was a one time thing it would be a different story if he kept being That abusive in the following chapters plus you can see an actual severe leg breaking scene to the guy that murdered the uke in all his past lives it was so satisfying to watch haha
