Genuinely if you can’t even see the meaning behind a story why do you bother reading any ANY book. So many books out there mention the most atrocious shit but do people stop reading? While some do because they obviously can, but others can just as well read it through for themselves. Reading something with things that are uncomfortable doesn’t mean the reader has no idea it is uncomfortable. Does knowing that it has sensitive topics and feeling grossed out make you somehow the better person? No. Like when you read The Handmaid’s Tale, you know the stuff happening it terrible, then base on that in your opinion you would tell others they should stop reading treating them as if they were blind??? What utter bs.

It took me a while to discover the word for this: Ethnocentrism - to apply one's own culture or ethnicity as a frame of reference to judge other cultures, practices, behaviors, beliefs, and people, instead of using the standards of the particular culture involved.


It's not always a bad thing, but the amount of times I see this happen to fictional work (even in works that actually means to commentate an criticise a culture or society) is insane.

Btw, I found out about this word because I was looking for something that I observe often in reincarnated into historical setting: chronological snobbery and chronocentrism.

Fr tho, Jinx was toxic from day one. Rape is still rape, can't morally grandstand with that track record. Hey I am honest, I like Jinx and Low Tide, but I am cognizant that it is fiction and in real life I would detest and fight against the situations. This story had a ceremonial kiss, was it technically wrong, yes, but it wasn't repeated or romanticized itself. @Xian I don't agree that reading this will normalise paedophila. Although I was the one to bring up ethnocentrism, I _do_ judge real life cultures (especially if they are current) that take advantage, manipulate, and abuse people. I suspend my disbelief because this is fiction, and even the author treads carefully around the topic - Ilya isn't raising and grooming Khalid, they maintain a platonic relationship because Ilya doesn't see a child in that way. He was impressed with Khalid because of his determination. If anything, this one specifically is anti-paedo, because despite the setting allowing it to happen, the author shuts it down.

I will admit, picking on Ida specifically in a whole new thread than actually speaking with Ida in theirs is not good.

You may not agree with me but it’s been proven numerous times. Think about who the majority of the audience for this content is? Once they find others who indulge in this freakish content, they begin to think they aren’t weird for liking it and end up creating safe spaces for other pedos in the mix. Just because you’re on the perpetrator’s side and don’t see how it affects actual minors, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen? Which I think is wayyy more off the charts since it’s literally about a highschooler finding potential romance interest in an elementary schooler.. Why do they feel comfortable reading that? Because the author made the content and fans who like that shit are hyping each other up in the comments to normalize it, which in turn does. There are forums, Twitter spaces, and other online platforms that the fans of this kind of content flock to share positive feedback which in turn helps turn fans into creators and it cycles. If you’re blind to literally just look at all these comments saying “if you don’t like it don’t read it”. Ok and then what? These creators or potential creators will only see the positive so then they think this content is okay.
