I think it's because of the consequences of his actions too. He never really lost anything, while also causing pain for Jooin (not standing up for him when rumors spread about him, and treating him like shit in private) and he doesn't have any proper remorse. On top of that, he's juxtaposed with a almost perfect guy, who has done nothing wrong yet. Ppl hate the seme from Painter of the Night, but from a historical standpoint and other added details in the show, most ppl understand that back then, what he did was "excusable" or more common.
