I think the red head dog is just pretending to be a bastard and his reason is " i was only protecting you" is because the father which is the ( emperor ) said to " do not create weakness " ... i didn't understand it at first but in the chapter where ishid and the red head is having a dinner and the red head is talking about his relationship with the uh.. (i forgot her name but she's the og fl) but when the emperor knocks and shows up he stops talking.
