I skimmed through the novel so far, and Varabus stole credit for the miracle water Ennid created to strengthen his position in the royal palace. Then, His Majesty the King told Varabus to eliminate the real inventor of the potion so the truth wouldn't come out. (I guess the king didn’t like that a commoner made it? He considered it a threat to royal family yada yada) But Varabus didn't want to kill Ennid because he has a crush on him. So, being the genius that he is, he decides to kidnap Ennid and force him to live in a villa with him. Ok that’s all I got so far
