the duke doesn't suddenly love neveah and you cannot convince me otherwise. he's just obsessed that something that was his got taken away and is just regretting and trying to get it back. he still doesn't clearly see neveah as a person neither does he respect her. it's an object that always belonged to him but now got taken away and he feels repulsed. it's the kind of possesiveness we usually have when our sibling/friend/any other person tries to take something that was ours and we feel repulsed and try to keep it in any way possible even though it is a useless and neglected item and through this we give excuses and convince ourselves that this item is useful and precious to us and we need to keep it to ourselves just so we don't need to give it away just like what mr.trash is doing.

Honestly the author should just drop the romance subplot and just focus on the gore and revenge. Let's be honest here we're all here for the sweet revenge and action not for some shitty romance which intervenes in every action MC takes. The romance is not even low-key but downright annoying and is being forcibly shoved in our faces. Hasn't the MC become an unfeeling being solely powered on revenge so what is putting romance doing? not to mention the romantic interest is stupid, annoying, has no chemistry and is not even useful

You have a point there. However, it can be argued that because she knew that he was her father's student, she automatically assumed that he wouldn't harm his teachers daughter whether the duke hated he or not. That's naïve, but not necessarily stupid.
Ok so hear me out on this one. Maybe the way ml turned out had a reason. In the earlier chapter we saw how the young ml got angry how his parents sold him in the name of marriage, but isn't this how it was normally done during that era but now we see that the emperor himself had a very loving relationship with the the empress. Maybe it was in the young ml's mind how he would also fall in love and have a similar relationship with his wife when he grows. It was 'normal' for him to think and hope for this because it was what he had seen with his own eyes. Further when he grew up he lost his loving parents who he had loved dearly and is burdened by the responsibilities of an emperor. Down the line he also had to marry a person he doesn't love nor feels any connection with because as he said it himself she was like doll, unmoving and without emotions and was only limiting his political power and was being used as a pawn by other nobles to limit the emperor. Also she was so perfect and never made mistakes it was bound to make the young emperor who was recently coronated and was still learning feel inferior and annoyed. We also see that he didn't see the empress as a person at all he just saw her as a doll unable to feel emotions and thus kept his distance because he felt she would'nt feel anything regardless of his actions like from his childhood he pointed even the smallest stuff just to spot some imperfection which was obv not the case. Even though I say all this stuff this still doesn't justify his actions as treating the empress as crap and non existent it was his own fault in a way that he was unable to see her abuse or her emotions and was unable to see her as living human. Also this explains a lot why the emperor didn't react at all when she died because in his eyes she was never a living person. That's it thankyou for coming to my ted talk

It really broke my heart how the first thoughts we read about eclise is that is he's calling Penelope a stupid bitch who he'll only need to put a good act of being an obedient dog and then fool her. I was shooketh to the core. I DID NOT EXPECT THIS I mean yeah I did know he was gonna betray her and bring her the "real" FL but that was under the guise of hypnotism because till now he was shown as such a cutie and doggie like character and his interactions with Fl seem very cute and genuine (not more than the crown prince that guy's on an another level) but boy o boy. And mind you we get to see his thoughts pretty late like when we saw his real thoughts the favourability of eclise was in the 90s and chapter was in the 150s I guess so till now he was acting and he fooled everyone.
What happens to him in the end? And why does he care so much about the original FL?

Surprised but not. It's only 33% favorable right now after all. If I had to cater to some rich privileged person from a country that destroyed my home, I'd feel the same. Honestly, the more I think about it the more I like that he's so angry at her. She's like an outlet for him to lay out his grief. And penelope isn't mother Theresa either. In a game of survival where all he knows about his new master is "whimsical and rich but looked down on," it makes sense. Does he still feel that way over time though? That's a different matter!
Everyone's saying he's dead but he's NOT dead after the last fight his body was not found but after three years or so the FL found out he was protecting her from a distance even though he lost most of his memories but still felt attachment to her with love and hate both involved. They kinda resolve their conflicts and he leaves for the north eastern side away from the FL (this is part of the side story).

Yeah I'm talking about he felt this way when his favourability was in the 90s%. I wouldn't be shocked even if that was his mentality in the 60s or 70s but he was like that in the 90s
