It’s important to realize that a lot of authors have their editors(or whatever you call them) make their same sex characters not end up together considering much of Japan is homophobic, and making them end up together is simply seen as less profitable. I remember many reviews of people saying the Noe is a heavily queer coded character as well. This is a route many authors take, if they still want to add some sort of lgbt element to it.
