Im surprised at amount of flake Emel gets for his decisions when they are perfectly logical in the world they live in. Its not modern day world , its medival times where you can simply die at any time.
Emel first left when he was going to fight for heir position at his family that had OUTCAST-ED him. It was an uphill battle from start and he was right in thinking that He had high chance of dying there to never return. Have we seriously not read enough succession fights in these nobility mangas?
So he should have gone to estelle like, Yooooo estelle how u doing? Just wanted to let you know that Im gonna fight my family and their vasalls alone to inherit marquis title just so I have status to propose you, O and Im gonna get abused daily and likely dying there so just chill and relax next few years alright.
Sasuga, Estelle would live her life so relaxed that way, totally not in constant despair , mind broken blaming herself for emel misery all those years and if he actually died, have a never ending trauma of he died because of her.
Instead emel did what a reasonable man would and ended before it escalated so she wouldn't despair , even if it gets him hated for life.
Second instance -
Emel saw a crazed estelle ready to go to any step to remove the pledge to save her father and brother from imperial curse and knew IRIS/Empress/Riddle were all aiming for her life.
He knew she would most definitely die, if she attempted to unearth the pledge by herself. So he for the SECOND time, put his life on line for estelle without second thoughts that it could make her truly hate him for life and he would never get chance to be with again.
Yet he took the step because for him, Estelle life was much more worth than him getting estelle love.
And he still gets hate for that? Geez. What do you want from the guy, This is realistic setting, You simply can't overthrow imperial family especially when pledge could even affect estelle by chance, Did anyone think he enjoyed kissing and hugging Iris? The one who put his beloved in such despair and acted against her life? He tolerated the mental abuse and the physical abuse Iris did just so estelle wouldnt die.
Give the man a break, this wasn't a happy go lucky story. It was a survival story with race against time, and you take desperate measures and steps in these stories just to survive.
if Estelle sacrificed for emel, Emel did sacrifice much more - He lived with the feeling of Guilt, being haten, physically and mentally abused all those years to serve the casteliios and dont let them be harmed.
and what age gap? Estelle fell for Emel as an adult and so did emel, emel didnt fantasized about her 11 yr old self. They fell in love both as adults.
and Carl x Estelle is just disgusting, ew. Let siblings have some brother-sister feelings without shoving incest in it.
Happy to see Emel and Estelle gets together, because its rare for so much sacrificing ML, most of times its FL who has to sacrifice everything for ML.
wait where can he be seen hugging and kissing iris or is this all inference? Also I completely agree with you although I wished someone would have told her slightly sooner so she could have some time to adjust and be able to control her emotions in front of iris, but that may just be because I hate when people are able to get a reaction like that.

well i mean i get where you're coming from but obviously if you have more knowledge than the rest of us your feelings will be different. we wouldn't know some of these things as they haven't been revealed in the plot yet so there is no backstory to show the readers that these decisions are valid.
also, the age gap itself wouldn’t have been wrong esp cus this is a historical novel anyways and that was normally, but it almost feels like grooming...? like even if it wasn’t intentional. really? the first man she meets that isn’t her relative and shows her affection is the one she falls in love with forever? i can’t exactly remember when she fell in love with him but i know she caught feelings a while before he did, so it just feels weird to me. and he’s almost like yandere sometimes it gives me weird vibes
Arghhhh..this gonna be a long way for Estelle to be happy..I just want she to be happy with her father and brother..She's been suffering enough..from she's little until that wizard kidnapped her..

There isn't really a villain, there's a few problematic characters but they get put in their place within a couple chapters. The doctor kinda does some shady stuff with the FL doctor, so I guess you can call him a villain, but compared to other stories I wouldn't call him a villain.

Okay, so its been a while since I read the novel, but from what I remember.......
There's a few annoying characters that don't approve of the duke's "son" being the heir, and they cause problems for the FL. Also, the ml had an ex, who also tried to start shit with the FL but she was put in her place pretty quickly.

Emel will be engaged to the princess bcs he needs to find the secrets of the royal family to bring them down. However the princess thinks he's inlove w her and she also knows that estelle loves emel and emel has been w estelle ever since she was a kid so she thinks that getting engaged w emel is the greatest revenge against estelle but little did she know that shes being used and emel is actually in love w estelle (btw just to clarify something i heard that theyre age is abt 6 to 7 years apart so its not a big age difference, she looked small bcs shes malnutritioned? idk but shes too small for her age thats why some ppl thought that theyre age difference is big) Tbh, estelle was infact hurt abt it bcs she didnt know anything abt what emel planned bcs emel just came out of nowhere w the news that hes engaged and ofc it left a huge scar on estelle. Idrk if he tried to explain it to her but ik she cried a lot and the pianist or the white hair dude was the one who comforted her. Emel is literally an asshole for doing that to estelle and for literally not telling her in advance and just leaving her hanging w a huge scar. I'm not sure abt this but i heard this spoiler somewhere, apparently the crown prince will propose to estelle and ask her to marry him. Idk for sure if she said yes to the proposal but ik that the crown prince tried to sexually abuse estelle and ofc he got beated by estelle's family. The princess got pregnant w black magic i think? im not sure but ik she got pregnant but its not emel's child but some type of magic she used? or a contract w a devil? idk im not sure but they said its to show estelle (idk fs if this is right, i just read this somewhere) that its emel's child and that emel loves her and not estelle but i think estelle is well aware of what emel plan is around that time but she was also hurt at the same time. The magic that the princess used led to her death i think.. im not sure.. but it also said that the princess was rlly jealous of estelle bcs everyone loved estelle but the princess was considered the "disgrace" so she used magic to get rid of her blindness and to show everyone that shes better than everyone and to belittle estelle and try to take everything from her. Thats why shes acting like that rn. But i think the real villain here is the empress herself bcs she abused the princess so many times and that led her to be insecure and jealous of estelle. But (idk if this is true) everyone from the royal family got killed except for the crown prince who was the next line in the throne. Idk why they had to make the crown prince become the emperor when they know that he wont do a good job. Also, emel and estelle will get together at the end :)
