I got Shin’s character the first season, but he was just too much this season. A lot of the things he did this season were so unnecessary. He seemed to really enjoy making it hard for himself and Wolfgang. And it already seems like this character trait of his would get even worse next season. Siiiiiiiiighhh. I don’t think I’ll be able to handle that, and might even drop the series if this gets worse.
i get annoyed at shin with how he thinks he's worthless, but i kinda understand where that comes from. wolfgang never really actually confess to him. shin used to be one of the previous king's "children", and when wolfgang finally killed the old king, he fucked shin on the throne while saying "you're mine",with the kings's dead body lying on the ground
shin understood it as wolfgang thinking that he's a trophy. since shin used to be the previous king's property, now wolfgang kept him around as a trophy as if saying "I've killed the old king, and what's his is mine now"
plus shin focus on the king/country aspect. he thinks he's merely one of the King's subjects (like his military/advisor/etc) he didn't think of himself as special or king's lover. that's why he's willing to sacrifice himself (for the benefit of the kingdom) and asked the king to get a queen

But the thing is, how did he go from a genius mastermind at a very young age to a borderline clueless adult? That doesn’t make any sense to me.

this is what i understand from his character, probably because his whole life has always been "political". there's a give and take. since he's a child he's already involved in politics and became the King's "children". he reads books regarding kingdom strategy and stuffs. whenever something happens he will calculate if it will benefit him or not, and if it doesn't, then he refuse to waste his time on it
probably the concept of "doing something out of pure love" and "love as lovers" is foreign to him, and he's never thought of it.
example : let's say you're a businessman, and then a big business comes to you and offers you a lot of money, and say "i just want to help you". you'll think it's suspicious, right? why does a big business want to help me and offer me money for free? they must want something from me. do they want to put me in debt and claim something from me later on?
your mind has been trained to be cautious because you know how business industry works. hence why shin thinks like that, because his mind has always been trained about politics, and the benefits of the country. that's why he always thinks from political perspective.
Well Yu IS a good looking dude. So, no shit, the minute he stops being stand-offish, of course he gon get girls lmao. Like, was Ryo expecting a different outcome?
