Stories like these have great potential but sometimes authors don't use it well. It's still a great story but there are so many spaces that could've been used to make the story interesting, guess it's already in their plan to make the story focus on something else.

I mean, technically in this case they do have childhood memories of each other and remember those memories very well, they just reasonably do not recognize each other as adults based on misinformation.
But I get what you mean lol it does happen a lot. I at least think it's nice that it's changed up to them remembering the childhood versions of each other, but circumstances making it hard to recognize each other. Whereas, some other ones it's they both don't remember or only one of them remembers.
