I feel you that it's way too common, but this story is rare because it's not forgiven and forgotten and never brought up again. It comes up quite a lot and both characters actually have to deal with it.

I feel that way about a lot of stories! A lot of yaoi's should have ended a lot time ago. The longer it goes on they forget the plot so people forgot why they even liked it from the first place. They add a lot of filler chapters to make the story go longer but it a waste time that adds nothing to the main plot. But like you said I rather it be shorter with a better plot then longer and a weaker plot.
