first, i usually find this trope annoying as well, but i think this girl has other intentions and fears playing in her actions that make her character complex.
atleast from what i presume, being in a rural, mostly conservative country - mr kwon being the sole reliant figure of hundreds of elders and as well as her own lack of understanding, exposure to gay/queer people, admiration for him, it’s clear there’s a struggle here.
these are all just my thoughts but,
1. with the environment and own person in mind she’s aware people rely on him, and she can be scared for his safety if he is anything but “normal” in her eyes. how will the village react? what will happen? the unknown is scary.
2. she may want things to be “stable”, abiding by heteronormative relationships as it was in the past.
— in this case she mentions babies. so, reproduction, which is important for small village growth.
3. now, her admiration is a bit of a fine line. she might be hurt, confused - and would rather see someone of her sex to be with him.
OF COURSE, this does not excuse her behaviour/actions. i don’t promote this, but i think it’s clear she’s not just 1-dimensionally hating, and will have some clear-up or explanation. i’m actually intrigued to see how they shape her image, and showcase how ignorance can be portrayed in more rural communities.
reading your ideas i would like to introduce a 4th one:
she saw something happening in Seoul, something mustve happened, just like our ahjussi said. She couldve seen real lbgtfobia, real hatred and is now fearing that someone so beloved not only by her but by all village suffers the same.
and also a 5th one:
she wants him to have what they both lost. a "normal" family
i think ill be thinking about this and her decisions all week ╮(￣▽￣)╭
this one is definitely a gem. so glad i came to read it!! sad abt the ending since it does seem a little rushed and unfinished due to it not having that much conclusion abt the other characters but i love the plot for this story. its v unique nd im rlly glad I read it ヾ(☆▽☆)
