I believe when MCs father found out about the shaddy practices he started digging out more, him being a police officer in itself was a huge problem for chief, from what I could understand father got to know too much about it like the drugs, where are they coming from, maybe he also got to know that some bigshots are also involved including politicians , his first priority was to take away his family and second was to report the happenings in the village but before he could escape they were killed.
Now the important question, why does grandma hate MC and blames him for the family demise??
Some of the theories that I could think of is that God she prays gave her a vague forsight that for MC to be alive somebody has to die(I know this sounds crazy).
Maybe MC was told to not do something but did by going to that building which led the family to leave that place to protect MC and themselves.
Another question, Grandma was a kind who was respected alot by villagers so why she didn't do anything.
One more question, that big guy with grandma, why tf he changed sides-for money, what it there in that envelope????
Apparently, the grandmother blamed and "hated" MC so that he would never return to the village and stay as far away from this place as possible. This is care through psychological bullying.
Also, judging by the scratches on the big guy's face, he most likely changed sides under blackmail from the village chief and some kind of ritual - like only "mother" could save his life or something like that. As far as I understand from the context.
