it isn't clear yet where the disgust comes from or where it's directed at! The only thing we know for sure, is that he smells like "disgust" at that moment but that could have different reasons. It being directed at the dog is just a guess!
I think it has to do with the fact that he isn't used to affection being directed towards him, because of his grandmother's hostility and his mother is always at work. I don't think he is disgusted by the dog itself but by its acception and love.
